Some of this engine’s defining characteristics include the automaker’s first use of Active Fuel Management (which is a form of cylinder deactivation) on a four-cylinder engine, continuously variable valve timing, Active Thermal Mangement, an electric water pump to help erase the drag of what you’d find with a conventional pump, stop/start technology, and more. It has an aluminum block and cylinder head which results in a reduction of the engine’s overall mass and weight, making the pickup that much more maneuverable.
