A vehicle has plenty of moving parts, but it does not have any kind of hope of getting anywhere without a solid, potent, reliable beating heart at its core. That, of course, is the engine, and in a big and bold vehicle like the powerful Chevrolet Silverado, the engine must be able to ensure that the vehicle is capable of everything that people expect from it, and more. Some of this engine’s defining characteristics include the automaker’s first use of Active Fuel Management (which is a form of cylinder deactivation) on a four-cylinder engine, continuously variable valve timing, Active Thermal Mangement, an electric water pump to help erase the drag of what you’d find with a conventional pump, stop/start technology, and more. It has an aluminum block and cylinder head which results in a reduction of the engine’s overall mass and weight, making the pickup that much more maneuverable.
